Today I spent most of the time in Kyoto’s Arashiyama district in the western part of the city. Although rather near to the city, this area provides great nature views and was a welcome change to city sightseeing. I did a walking tour to the garden of the Tenryu-ji temple (again world heritage), the hill of the monkey park, walked around the Togetsu-kyo bridge, a park with bamboo groves, a historic street, and explored a few other, more hidden and unusual temples.

In the afternoon, I returned to Kyoto and explored the missing parts of the city centre, including the Kyoto Tower where you can enjoy the city from about 100m high.
